Through
scholarships, grants, awards and public awareness, AEF provides
America with the tools needed to educate the public and our youth
on the importance of science and technology to our national defense.
The
nearly 150,000-member Air Force Association, formed in 1946, is
an independent, nonprofit, civilian aerospace organization that
promotes public understanding of aerospace power and national
defense. AFA is led by volunteer leaders at the national, state,
and local levels. The association has chapters in all fifty states,
Europe and the Pacific.
With
almost a million members from all walks of life, the Auxiliary
administers hundreds of volunteer programs, gives tens of thousands
of hours to its communities and to veterans, and raises millions
of dollars to support its own programs as well as other worthwhile
charities familiar to most Americans.
Today's
American Red Cross is keeping pace with the changing military.
Featuring the latest in computer and telecommunications technology,
the American Red Cross Emergency Service Center delivers around-the-clock
emergency communication services to active duty military personnel,
and to their families.
ASMBA
is a nonprofit fraternal benefit association currently in its
fourth decade of service to the military. ASMBA's founders believed
strongly that the dedicated people serving our country in the
Armed Forces deserve a break when purchasing life insurance. We
are proud to offer our members and their families flexible, comprehensive
low cost plans tailored to fit today's active military and their
families (Active Duty National Guard, Reserve, and Retirees are
also included).
The
YMCA has provided educational, recreational, social and religious
support to the military since 1861 and continues that effort with
the Defense Department through the Armed Services YMCA headquarters
in Springfield, Virginia.
Christian
Military Fellowship (CMF) supports United States military personnel
and their families, worldwide, with prayer, Bible studies, local
fellowships, conferences, referrals, free literature, correspondence,
hospitality, and Christian resources.
A
Fisher House is "a home away from home" for families
receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers.
The houses are normally located within walking distance of the
treatment center or have transportation available. There
are 26 Fisher Houses located on 16 military installations and
four VA medical centers, and additional houses are planned.
The
Association has been and is dedicated to identifying and resolving
issues affecting families of the Uniformed Services through research,
education, legislation, and public information.
The
Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 with the
encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. The Navy League
is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a
civilian organization dedicated to the education of our citizens,
including our elected officials, and the support of the men and
women of the sea services and their families.
Silver
Wings is a national, co-ed, professional organization dedicated
to creating proactive, knowledgeable, and effective civic leaders
through community service and education about national defense.
The
Society Of Military Widows (SMW) was founded to serve the interests
of women whose husbands died while on active military duty, of
a service-connected illness, or during disability or regular retirement
from the armed forces.
The
Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, Inc. (TAPS) is a national
non-profit organization made up of, and providing services to,
all those who have lost a loved one while serving in the Armed
Forces.
As
the independent forum for the sea services, the Naval Institute
is a private, non-profit membership society for U.S. Navy, Marine
Corps, and Coast Guard professionals. Since 1873, through its
books (Naval Institute Press), magazines (Proceedings & Naval
History), and seminars, the Naval Institute provides a safe haven,
a forum, for discussion of issues of immediate importance to the
nation's military forces and a source for keen historical analysis
of military issues.
